A local banker, Jim Archer, is one of them. The more you explore the town and talk to people the more apparent it is that several different people who are struggling financially were given the expectation that they would be well taken care of by Josiah’s will. However, when the will was found it all went to a local paranormal powers expert, Richard Topham, instead. It turns out that Emily and her mother were promised a lot of money from a wealthy neighbor and friend, Josiah Crowley. During the commotion the jewelry is stolen! Although Emily tries to get Nancy to leave, she has no luck and Nancy stays on to solve her first mystery. Before any plans can be made however there’s an explosion downstairs and everyone has to leave the building. She’s a little paranoid and afraid someone will steal her mother’s jewelry, she asks Nancy to get her father to lock it away in his safe.

Emily Griffin just recently lost her mother and is trying to figure out how to run the place at 17 years old. In any case the game begins with Nancy driving her blue roadster to Lilac Inn at the request of a friend of the owners. This is also one of the less ominous looking covers for any of the games. There are various people walking around in the background but no mysterious shadowy figure. The cover is fairly simple, a downtown street scene with a broken antique clock face in the center. Whatever the reason Nancy has a mystery to solve and incidentally it has a lot to do with time. This has started off the popular rumor that Nancy is, in fact, a time lord. Not only that but there’s no explanation for how Nancy suddenly jumped from having cell phones and computers back into the 1930s besides the first book being set then. Now most of the games start with a letter, but this one starts with an old-style news reporter voice over stating what Nancy’s doing. The Secret of the Old Clock was published in 1930 and that’s where the game starts. For the 75th Anniversary of the Nancy Drew books it’s based off of the first book in the series.

The Secret of the Old Clock is the twelfth game in the Nancy Drew series by Her Interactive. Sometimes when loading an old game you need to adjust some things so that a newer computer can recognize and run it properly! Thanks for being patient while I worked out the problem~~

If you ever run into a “Tree Header” error, like I did, try going through all of the steps for Windows Vista/Windows 7 Installation. ~~ Before I start this review I want to apologize for taking so long to finish it! It took me a while to get my version of the game up and running again since it is fairly old by now (hard to believe!) I finally did though with some help from Her Interactive’s Technical Support Page.
